Eight In Eight For Dominant Woodhead

1 Mins read

Harry Woodhead took yet another dominant victory in Round 8 of the 2013 Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park to make it eight in a row for the season.

The victory sees Woodhead eclipse Seb Morris’ start of seven wins in the opening eight races from two years ago, and moves him closer to the 2011 champion’s record of eleven wins in a season.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the championship leader though, as a fantastic getaway for Ollie Chadwick saw him storm into the lead through Old Hall, with Woodhead slotting into second ahead of HHC Motorsport team-mate Will Palmer.

After a failed attempt at the Island hairpin, Woodhead seized the advantage heading into Druids, with the brief stint in the lead being the highlight of what would turn out to be a disappointing race for Chadwick.

An electrical problem detected on the green flag lap would go onto hamper the JHR Development driver’s race, with the series race-winner dropping through the field to tenth before eventually retiring on the penultimate lap with an alternator failure.

Woodhead would have no such problems though, the reigning Winter Series champion streaking home once again to win by 6.4 seconds and complete a clean sweep of pole positions, fastest laps and race wins for the weekend.

With Palmer breaking away behind his team-mate to secure a comfortable fourth podium of the season, the rest of the field were left to scrap for the final podium position behind. Tom Jackson held the advantage over the first few laps, before being passed by Keith Donegan at Cascades on lap three.

The Irishman held the place for the remainder of the race, despite severe pressure from Jackson behind, to secure the Douglas Motorsport man his fourth podium of the campaign, with Jackson fourth.

Jack Mitchell fended off James Kellett for the Rookie Cup win and fifth overall to cap off a great weekend, having scored his first overall podium in race one. Ben Pearson took seventh ahead of fellow rookies Jack Rawles, Jamie Chadwick and Josh White.

Provisional Ginetta Junior Championship Standings (After Rd.8):

  1. Harry Woodhead – 292pts
  2. Will Palmer – 186pts
  3. Tom Jackson – 171pts
  4. Keith Donegan – 165pts
  5. James Kellett – 156pts
  6. Ollie Chadwick – 144pts
