Ratel praises Auto GP

1 Mins read

Stéphane Ratel, the head of SRO which runs the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series, amongst others, has praised the Auto GP championship after the most recent round at Silverstone.

The championship joined up with Blancpain at Silverstone as a support for the three hour race and Ratel was invited to hand out the podium trophies after race one.

The Frenchman praised series founders Enzo and Paolo Coloni for developing the series into what it is today and suggested the series would also be a perfect stepping stone, size and power wise, for a driver wanting to move upwards from F3.

Speaking of F3 Ratel hinted that future years could see Auto GP supporting the Cooper Tyres British F3 International Series or vice versa as he said the great racing on display should be shown on F1 circuits in front of amazed spectators. The SRO boss said that they would also provide a good counter balance to GT racing as Auto GP has: “a very obvious level of skill and speed from a fine grid of cars and drivers.”

He said about the cars themselves: “The Auto GP cars are spectacular and fast. They are very visible too but it is the noise which thrills the spectators the most.”

The next time Auto GP will be in action is at Mugello on July 13/14.
