Donegan Battles To Opening Knockhill Win

1 Mins read

Keith Donegan took his second win in three Ginetta Junior Championship races with a hard-fought win in Round 13 at Knockhill.

Championship leader Harry Woodhead started the twelve lap encounter from pole position and a good start saw him lead around the first lap. Tom Jackson started second and held the place until Butchers, when Will Palmer squeezed through. Donegan followed him past, with Jackson eventually slipping to sixth at the end of the opening lap.

Woodhead’s advantage at the front was short-lived, a mistake from the HHC Motorsport ace dropping him to fourth on lap two, with team-mate Palmer taking the lead from Donegan and Ollie Chadwick.

The battle for the lead changed on lap four, with Palmer slipping back to sixth after running wide at the chicane, giving the advantage to Donegan. Woodhead meanwhile had worked his way up to second ahead of a recovering Jackson, while Chadwick’s race ended at the hairpin when a mechanical failure sent him into the gravel.

While Donegan was unable to break the tow to the pack behind, the Irishman was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the race to take the win by 1.1s. Jackson briefly grabbed second on lap ten, but Woodhead regained the place a lap later for his thirteenth consecutive top two finish.

Palmer snatched third from Jackson on the final lap to grab his eighth podium finish of the campaign.  James Kellett took the Rookie class win in fifth overall behind Jackson, while Jack Rawles worked his way up from eleventh on the grid to complete the top six. Ryan Hadfield took seventh ahead of fellow rookies Jack Mitchell and Jamie Chadwick.
