Michael Shank Racing will be hoping for a return to the Road America podium after drivers Ozz Negri and John Pew finished third at last year’s event.
Along with the experienced duo in the #60, a strong sister line-up will double the team’s chances for success. Former Indy Lights racer Gustavo Yacaman will make his first appearance at Road America, and will also mark the first time that Michael Shank Racing has fielded two entries at the famous circuit.
Yacaman has proven quick to learn new circuits since moving to the Daytona Prototype scene and will have a strong partner to lean on as team-mate Justin Wilson already has three Road America starts under his belt, racing in the ChampCar races in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
It will be the second time that Yacaman and Wilson will join forces, having teamed up for the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen in June, finishing sixth after a late splash’n’dash pitstop ruined all hopes of a podium.
“To have this kind of talent available to race for the team is really incredible,” said team owner Mike Shank. “I appreciate what Justin brings to this program and I am looking forward to the second half of the season for the No. 6 car. Gus (Yacaman) has continued to adapt to racing in GRAND-AM and we are excited to have him teamed up with Justin. They both come from that open-wheel background so we hope this will be a very productive pairing.”
