Nick Beaumont Takes Maiden Pole At Brands Hatch

1 Mins read

Qualifying for the 11th round of the 2013 APR Volkswagen Racing Cup produced a surprise, as Nick Beaumont stormed to pole position at Brands Hatch GP circuit.

Standing in for regular driver Chris Levett, the JWB Motorsport driver moved to the top of the times at the halfway stage of the session to prove he would be no slouch during the 30-minute session, grabbing the advantage again from his rivals on his last lap of the day.

Beaumont had been shuffled back in the second half of the session following his provisional pole effort, Joe Fulbrook the man who firstly demoted the Scirocco man to second before a late flurry of times saw Beaumont drop to seventh.

Phil House and Aaron Mason both troubled the front duo, but it was David Sutton who suddenly looked favorite to steal the top spot in the dying laps as the Team HARD Golf GTI driver went fastest of all.

The lap did not last however, Sutton denied a maiden pole by Beaumont who in turn picked up that statistic for himself, a lap of 1m41.279s the effort that sealed the deal.

Sutton joins him on the front row for tomorrow’s first race after missing out on pole by 0.210s, beating the returning Ross Wylie in his Slidesports Scirocco and the Golf GTI of Fulbrook, points leader Mason rounding out the top five.

House finished sixth in a tightly-bunched top 10, Chris Panayiotou impressing on his way to seventh place ahead of double Spa winner Stewart Lines.

The KPM man’s team-mate Martin Depper ended ninth, the top 10 rounded out by Henry Gilbert ahead of Tom Barley and Josh Caygill‘s Golfs, the top 12 separated by just 0.8s.
