Recently crowned Protyre Formula Renault Champions MGR Motorsport have confirmed plans for an assault on the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup next season.
MGR have become one of the most formidable outfits in British single-seater racing since their formation in 2010. After finishing runners up in Formula Renault and InterSteps in 2012, the team sealed their first championship title this past weekend with Chris Middlehurst’s success.
The Leicestershire-based outfit, who are also challenging for the 2013 BRDC Formula 4 crown with Jake Dalton, are now looking to conquer Europe, starting in Formula Renault NEC next season.
“The plan for next year is to branch out into Europe, into Formula Renault NEC,” team owner Mark Godwin told thecheckeredflag.co.uk. “We did want to do it this season, but it was just too early, and with F4 coming along, it made more sense to build a good foundation in the UK first.
“I think we’ve done that now, we’ve created a better reputation for ourselves by being strong in two categories, and we’ve now got a few drivers that I think we can take into Europe and do well with, so it’s the right time to go. We’re taking delivery of our first car in a couple of weeks and may try and get an entry into the last NEC round this year.”
