Tom Chilton successfully converted his first World Touring Car Championship pole position into a maiden win at Sonoma.
As Chilton kept the lead at the start, Tiago Monteiro put his Honda into second place past Chilton’s RML team-mate Yvan Muller.
Monteiro put pressure on Chilton but the Briton was able to edge away late on to claim a two-second victory.
Muller finished in third ahead of the two Bamboo cars of Alex MacDowall and James Nash who claimed a one-two finish in the Yokohama Trophy.
Gabriele Tarquini finished sixth in the other factory Honda, while BMW driver Tom Coronel passed Rob Huff‘s SEAT after contact to claim seventh ahead of the reigning world champion.
Huff’s All-Inkl.com Munnich team-mate Marc Basseng was ninth with the top ten completed by Stefano D’Aste‘s BMW.
