Tom Coronel won a Japanese race of the World Touring Car Championship for the third time as he beat Mehdi Bennani to victory in race two at Suzuka.
The two BMWs started from the front of the grid and Coronel tracked Bennani during the half of the race before eventually lunging past at lap 17.
The final podium place came down to a fight between the two factory Honda cars, with Tiago Monteiro overhauling Gabriele Tarquini on lap 11.
James Nash collected his second fifth place finish of the weekend just ahead of Tom Chilton. The pair benefited from fellow Chevrolet driver Pepe Oriola being handed a drive-through penalty for a jump start.
Chilton’s RML team-mate and freshly-crowned champion Yvan Muller was eliminated in a crash at the start following contact with race one winner Norbert Michelisz.
Charles Ng claimed his best ever result in seventh after coming out on top of a race-long fight with Rob Huff, re-passing the 2012 world champion on the last lap. Marc Basseng and Stefano D’Aste overhauled Alex MacDowall and James Thompson to take the final two places in the top ten, although Basseng was later penalised for his move on Thompson, enabling Darryl O’Young to claim the final point.
