Colburn Leads The Way In Brands Qualifying

1 Mins read

James Colburn took a double pole position in qualifying for the final rounds of the 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup season at Brands Hatch.

With the track continuing to dry as the morning wore on, the destination of the final pole positions of the campaign went down to the wire, with times continuing to improve into the final minutes.

Colburn’s best effort of 1m 41.102s was enough to secure him his second pole position of the campaign, with Alex Morgan initially holding pole for race two before being one of eleven drivers to lose times for failing to obey yellow flags, giving Colburn the top spot once again. Morgan meanwhile ended up third and fourth for the two encounters.

Team Pyro’s Josh Files secured second on the grid for both races, bouncing back superbly after a nightmare testing crash with team-mate Ash Hand yesterday, the championship leader looking set to wrap up the title in this afternoon’s opening race.

Stefan Hodgetts was top of the timesheets with eight minutes to go in the session, however he lost out as the times improved, the Scuderia Vittoria ace ending up fifth and fourth for the two encounters.

Another driver who had a spell atop the times at one stage was Josh Cook, the JHR Developments driver eventually putting his British Heart Foundation-liveried Clio to eighth and fifth.

Series returnee Martin Byford has a session to forget on his first competitive Clio outing since winning the title in 2007, an off track moment on the GP loop ending his session early, putting him 23rd and 24th on the grid for the two races.
