Four Additional Iconic Cars Added To RK Motors Collector Car Auctions List

1 Mins read

Just weeks after announcing plans to auction James Hunt‘s 1977 McLaren M26, RK Motors Collector Car Auctions have revealed four additional iconic machines to go up for auction at the end of October.

Adding to the auction’s historic motorsports theme, Mario Andretti‘s 1974 Viceroy Gurney Eagle, Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 1977 Chevrolet Nova, AJ Foyt‘s 1978 Chevrolet Camaro and Ivan ‘Ironman’ Stewart‘s 1994 Toyota PPI Trophy truck will be going under the hammer.

“This ‘Legends of Motorsports’ collection will be a dream-come-true for racing fans, collectors and motorsports aficionados,” said Bill Mathews, executive vice president of RK Motors Collector Car Auctions. “In many cases, this will be the very first time that these historic vehicles will be available for public purchase.”

Fans of NASCAR will be quick to recognise the ’77 Nova, with the car having taken victories in at Caraway, Daytona, Rockingham and Charlotte in the ’82 and ’83 seasons. The car, in the iconic black GM Goodwrench livery, carries the #8, the number made famous by Earnhardt’s father Ralph, and later adopted by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

More recently the car has seen action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed no less than three times, including the 2009 celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of Daytona’s history and has just seen a complete mechanical and cosmetic overhaul in preparation for competition at the Rolex Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca.

Also up for auction is Mario Andretti’s 1974 Indianapolis 500 challenger, which saw action throughout the ’74 season, including a third place result at the USAC National Championships in Phoenix, while the 1978 Camaro of AJ Foyt saw the legend take multiple victories in the 1978 USAC Stock Car Series.
