3. Red Bull wraps up second consecutive constructors’ title – 2011
2011 was a meteoric season for Red Bull, and Sebastian Vettel in particular. After taking the title in the final round of 2010, they were never headed throughout the whole of 2011. Vettel arrived in Korea on the back of clinching his second consecutive championship in Japan, but there was one thing still to be decided, the constructors’ championship.
Despite an unusually subdued Lewis Hamilton taking a rare non-Red Bull pole position on Saturday, the newly crowned double champion took the lead on the first lap and was soon disappearing into the distance. It would be his tenth victory of the season, and a particularly sweet one after being beaten by Jenson Button at Suzuka the race before.
A battle commenced between Hamilton and Vettel’s team mate, Mark Webber, for second and third place, with the McLaren man ultimately just clinging onto the runner up spot.
But it didn’t matter, first and third place was enough for Red Bull to clean up on a year they had been absolutely dominant. The Yeongam circuit may not be the best location for a party that Formula One visits, but that night, no-one in the team cared one bit.
