3 – Adam Morgan
Onlookers often warm to the underdogs in sport, and in the 2013 British Touring Car Championship season, Adam Morgan was the man who takes that mantle.
After a learning and sometimes reckless maiden season last year, Morgan returned with his GT Supercup title-winning family squad, Ciceley Racing, for 2013, and duly put together a year full of highs on his way to an amazing seventh overall in the championship and third in the Independent’s fight.
The Lancashire driver converted his flashes of 2012 speed into consistent top 10 performances all season, and coupled it with an audacious display of racecraft and determination to become a regular interloper to the big guns.
His performances were rewarded with a first podium for Morgan and his family-run outfit during a hectic final race at Oulton Park, while 22 top 10 finishes outlined him as a future star of the series having taken it to the experienced names at the front of the field.
“It’s been mega”, Morgan told TCF after a strong season. “I’ve absolutely loved it, the team have done a fantastic job, and obviously to get a podium in our first year is just brilliant. We’ve exceeded our expectations this year.”
The team now switch their Toyota Avensis for a pair of Mercedes A Class NGTC cars for 2014, where Morgan’s next challenge is the reach the top step of a BTCC podium.
