Renault UK Clio Cup star Devon Modell is an early favourite for victory in this weekend’s Michelin Clio Cup Series ‘Autumn Cup’ after confirming his entry with Scuderia Vittoria..
The 23 year old competed in the BTCC-supporting Clio Cup for the first time this season, finishing twelfth overall in the championship.
Modell’s best finish of the season, fourth, came at the venue for the Autumn Cup, Rockingham, ensuring he will be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.
“My maiden season in the UK Clio Cup was a very positive experience and, while I made a great deal of progress, I think I was unable to maximise some of my results through no fault of my own,” said Modell.
“Podiums were tantalisingly close at times and I’d like to fulfil that potential in the Autumn Cup at Rockingham. There’s no reason why I can’t be a frontrunner all weekend long.”
Modell heads a six car entry from Scuderia Vittoria for the event. Clio Series ‘roadcar’ class front-runner Tommy Ostgaard will make his full Clio debut, as will former single-seater racer Alex Walker and former Scottish Legends champion Jamie Clarke.
They will be joined by fellow debutants, former Mazda and Lotus racer Andrew Wright and racing newcomer Michele Faissola.
”We have an eclectic mix of drivers for the Michelin Clio Cup Series Autumn Cup event at Rockingham, all with differing levels of experience in various formulas,” said Scuderia Vittoria director Danny Buxton.
“They all have different ambitions and goals for the weekend and it will be a privilege helping them all achieve their objectives. Most have tested with us previously and have an idea of what they can do, but we just hope for a productive outing.”
All six drivers will receive tutelage over the weekend from 2009 BTCC champion Colin Turkington.
”It’s fantastic to welcome Colin Turkington aboard for this event,” added Buxton. “To have a driver of his calibre who has so much knowledge and experience to share will prove invaluable for our drivers and I look forward to working with him.”
