I suppose now is the time to look back and review 2013, my final year in the Ginetta Juniors.
Well, I have to say, I set out to drive fast and have fun. Practice, qualifying, racing…..I tried to squeeze whatever I could out of myself and the car.
Unfortunately, it didn’t always go to plan. I’ve got to hold my hands up, I made a couple of silly mistakes (sorry Will), although I was also the unfortunate victim of other people’s errors, and the car let me down a few times. But, that’s racing and I don’t waste time worrying about ‘ifs, buts and maybes’.
It’s possible that with a bit more discipline and organisation we should have been challenging Harry for the title. But, what’s done is done – I set numerous fast times, poles, led races, enjoyed podiums and wins, so I’m satisfied that I did what I set out to – drive fast and have fun.
One of the nicest comments I receive is when people tell me I’m ‘exciting to watch’. I know that’s not always a compliment, but I always give it 100%, with the equipment available, and like to think my little yellow G40 has proved entertaining on the circuits. As I’ve said before, these are fantastic cars and a terrific way to learn racing at an early age in front of the best crowds and live TV. And I hope I’ve done my bit to help promote this Championship.
As far as next season is concerned, I’m not yet ready to make any announcements. I’ve tested various options, and had discussions, but I’m in no rush. I love motorsport, but I’m also realistic – my priority is to enjoy what I’m doing, whether this is a career or a hobby.
Thanks to everyone I’ve been involved with this year, and good luck to those moving on. Will no doubt see some of you in 2014.
