Rob Smith has signed a deal with reigning champions Team Pyro for the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup, his third year in the tin-top series.
The 21 year old has run with Total Control Racing (TCR) for the past two seasons. After a learning year in 2012, Smith became a regular top-ten finisher last season, taking a best finish of sixth place on the opening weekend.
The Telford-based racer is now aiming to become a regular podium challenger this season in his Evergreen Tyres-backed fourth-generation Clio.
“I have had a great couple of learning years with TCR,” said Smith. “With the new Clio arriving in the UK for 2014, and with Pyro winning last year’s Eurocup series with the new car, it’s sensible to move there for this season.
“I am very fortunate to have the support of Evergreen and Group Tyre for 2014. Their early agreement to support the Clio means we can start testing soon and I can get plenty of mileage in the new car before the first race in March – I can’t wait!”
Smith is Pyro’s first confirmed driver for the upcoming campaign, with fellow series returnee Mike Bushell amongst those linked to the Leicestershire-based outfit.
