Woodhead Joins Douglas For Supercup Debut

1 Mins read

2013 Ginetta Junior Champion Harry Woodhead has joined Douglas Motorsport for his maiden campaign in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup.

Woodhead told TheCheckeredFlag.co.uk back in September of his intentions to join the Supercup grid in 2014, though it was initially thought he’d be making the step up with HHC Motorsport, the team that guided him to eleven race wins en-route to his Junior title.

The 16 year old will instead make his Supercup debut with front-running outfit Douglas Motorsport, who made their debut in the BTCC-supporting series in 2013, running a single-car for Andrew Watson.

Watson’s front-running performances, as well as Douglas’ race-winning exploits in the Junior championship with Keith Donegan, helped convince Woodhead to join the Irish squad for the upcoming campaign.

“At a recent test at Silverstone I was very impressed with the professionalism and commitment the team showed during the day,” said Woodhead. “Having raced them in Juniors over the last two years, the team certainly knows how to give their drivers a race-winning car, and proved in 2013 that their G55 was more than capable of running at the sharp end of the grid. I’m really looking forward to the season opener at Brands Hatch now!”

“Harry was a class act in Juniors last season and his pace in a recent test in his new Ginetta G55 proved that this step-up is certainly not a challenge too far for him,” added team principal Wayne Douglas. “Harry was very professional throughout the test and reacted well to any set-up and weather changes on the day. I’m very confident that we are going to have a strong season together this year.”
