Devon Modell is targeting a title challenge in the Renault UK Clio Cup this season, after signing for a second season with SV Racing.
The 23 year old completes SV’s four car line-up for the year, joining KX Akademy-backed trio Alex Morgan, Ant Whorton-Eales and Ash Hand.
Modell returned to racing last season after a four year sabbatical after karting, ending his maiden car-racing campaign twelfth in the Clio Cup standings, with a best result of fourth.
The Maidstone-based racer then went on to claim his first car-racing win during the end-of-season Clio Cup Series ‘Autumn Cup’ event at Rockingham.
Having now purchased his own fourth generation Clio Cup race car, Modell is plotting a major push for the championship.
“I’m optimistic going into this season,” said Modell. “I won a race in the Autumn Cup and before that we were getting nearer and nearer the front in the main championship as the season went on.
“It’s great to be back with the SV Racing guys again, Danny [Buxton – team principal] is a good guy to have around you and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. We’ll probably be out testing the new car very soon, and the aim this year is to fight for regular wins and, hopefully, the title.”
Alongside his Clio Cup title push, Modell is also targeting a potential campaign in the Eurocup Clio series, if the required budget can be raised.
