Bernstorff Fastest as GP3 Series Testing Concludes

2 Mins read

Anglo-Danish driver Emil Bernstorff finished the final day of GP3 pre-season testing fastest as drivers made their final preparations for the season beginning in three weeks time. The Carlin drivers’ lap of 1:34.494s was fast enough to put him in P1, with Norwegian Pal Varhaug second for Jenzer Motorsport, 0.205s behind.

Carlin had a good day with all three of their drivers in the top six; Alex Lynn was once again in the top three, while Luis Sa Silva was sixth.   Briton Nick Yelloly, who had set the pace on day one for Status Grand Prix, ended the day fourth fastest, just ahead of Patric Niederhauser for Arden International, the Swiss driver beating Sa Silva’s time by 0.052s.

Two of the three ART Grand Prix cars were seventh and eighth in the hands of Alex Fontana and Marvin Kirchhofer, while the top ten was rounded out by Jimmy Eriksson in the Koiranen GP entry and Patrick Kujala in the Marussia Manor Racing entry.

On a day with blue skies at the Circuit de Catalunya, all the fastest times were set in the morning session, with drivers once again concentrating on longer runs in the afternoon. Trident Racing’s Denis Nagulin caused a red flag in the morning after a trip into the turn nine gravel trap, while his team-mate Victor Carbone caused another red flag in the afternoon after clipping the turn four barriers.

Teams will now return to base to prepare for the season opening race of the year, back at the Circuit de Catalunya on May 09th-11th. That’s when this bunch of young and promising drivers will really begin their season in earnest. We still do not know the full line-up, but that will begin to fall into place in the upcoming weeks.
