Max Coates is all set for his return to racing this weekend at the wonderfully picturesque Donington Park circuit in Derbyshire, after a budget enforced ten month absence from top level competition.

The popular North Yorkshire based driver will make his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup of Great Britain, handling the official Porsche VIP car. Ben Barker took the entry to a dominant double victory over the opening weekend of the Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch last month.

Whilst Coates has rear wheel driver racing experience from successive and successful campaigns in Ginetta racing, he has never driven a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Whilst the introduction of the new Type 991 car to national competition has levelled the playing field, the majority of the drivers Coates will be racing against have the benefit of mileage gained in the new car over the championship’s opening meeting. “I have never driven a Porsche so the weekend will be a steep learning curve but I am ready for the challenge.” He added.

However, the last time that Max competed at Donington Park in 2012, he took three stunning class victories in the G50 aspect of the Ginetta GT Supercup races held during that BTCC event. He is very excited to be joining the Porsche grid for this weekend saying “The new Porsches’ are stunning cars and from talking to some of the current drivers they are as good to drive as they are to look at.”

With the addition of such a talented young racer in the VIP car, plus the already fantastic and quality filled regular entry, the racing this Easter weekend is sure to be fast and fantastically frenetic in the Porsche Carrera Cup of Great Britain.
