MotoGP 2014: Grand Prix of the Americas – Power Five

5 Mins read

4. Jack Miller (Moto3)

Two races into the new Moto3 season and we already have a clear favourite for the 2014 title. Jack Miller leaves Austin with maximum points after another weekend where he handled the pressure better than anybody else.

As in Qatar, Miller kept a low profile through free practice but come qualifying, the Australian was the man to beat, claiming pole position by a third of a second. Race way was where we really saw the best of Jack though as Efren Vazquez and Romano Fenati aimed to deny him a second consecutive victory.

Vazquez, in particular, was a constant threat with the Honda proving more than a match for Miller’s KTM in a straight line but whenever the Spaniard slipstreamed his way into the lead, Miller blasted straight back past on the brakes. Jack’s late braking would end up being the difference maker with Vazquez forced to settle for third behind the KTM of Fenati.

Before 2014, Miller hadn’t even finished on a Moto3 podium but the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider is looking increasingly comfortable up there, in particular the top step, and if his championship rivals are looking for a weakness in his game, the opening two races haven’t shown any.
