Tamas Pal Kiss Wins Paul Ricard Opener

1 Mins read

Hungarian racer Tamas Pal Kiss won his first Auto GP World Series race of his career as the Zele Racing driver leapt to the front after the round of pit stops saw pole sitter Kevin Giovesi delayed in the pits.

German Markus Pommer finished second to compliment his win in the second round if Marrakech last weekend for Super Nova International, just about holding off championship leader Kimiya Sato in the Euronova Racing entry.

Giovesi’s pit lane troubles saw him fall to fourth place at the finish for Eurotech Engineering, while Andrea Roda also fell out of contention for the win in the pits, with the Italian Virtuosi UK driver falling from second before the compulsory stop to fifth behind Giovesi.

Loris Spinelli impressed in only his second Auto GP event by claiming sixth place, finishing on the tail of team-mate Giovesi and Roda ahead of him. Super Nova’s Michela Cerruti was seventh, while Yoshitaka Kuroda (Zele Racing), Michele La Rosa (MLR71 by Euronova) and Giuseppe Cipriani (Ibiza Racing Team) completed the top ten. In fact they were the only finishes, as Sam Dejonghe retired on lap five, while Niccolo Schiro failed to start.

Sato leads the championship on 56 points ahead of Pommer on 44, with Pal Kiss now up to third on 37.
