Christof von Grunigen to Debut for Zele Racing in Italy

1 Mins read

Swiss driver Christof von Grunigen will make his Auto GP World Series debut this weekend at the legendary Monza circuit in Italy. He will partner Hungarian Tamas Pal Kiss in the Zele Racing team.

Von Grunigen becomes the third driver to partner Pal Kiss this season, the team having run Italian Sergio Campana in Morocco before Japanese driver Yoshitaka Kuroda was loaned from Euronova Racing for the races in France and Hungary. He tested for Zele Racing a few weeks back to get experience before his debut.

The Swiss driver won both ESET Formula races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria two weeks ago, and will hopefully bring that confidence to Monza.

“I have always been following Auto GP,” said von Grunigen. “The main difference to my current Formula Masters car is the engine power. The Auto GP racer has much more horsepower and it’s also bigger.

“I am really excited about my first race with Zele Racing. I am fully motivated and want to fight for points in Monza”.

Whereas von Grunigen is hoping for points, his Zele Racing team-mate Pal Kiss will be hoping to have a strong weekend to start closing down the gap to championship leader Kimiya Sato at the top of the championship. The Hungarian driver sits 39 points adrift of the Euronova Racing driver in second place, while Markus Pommer of Super Nova International is a further ten points back in third.
