Championship leader George Gamble dominated qualifying for the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge weekend on the Silverstone Grand Prix.

The TCR driver claimed both of the pole positions on offer from the Saturday morning session, with Ollie Chadwick due to line-up alongside him on the front row for both this afternoon’s first race and Sunday morning’s second of the series’ trio of races on the weekend.

Both Gamble’s fastest lap (2:25.275) and his second fastest lap were faster than Chadwick’s fastest offering from the 20 minute session.

Third fastest Swede Dennis Strandberg, who won his first UK GT5 Challenge race at Rockingham the previous round, and Gary Simms will share the second row for both races as the line-ups for both races are identical, past series returnee Brad Bailey and Callum Pointon to the seventh spot on the grid. Nick Firth will occupy it for the opening race, Matt Flowers taking the spot for the second race with Firth down in eighth. Luca Hirst will start both races from ninth place. He was one of six drivers to be penalised for exceeding track limits during the session, all losing the specific lap where they committed the offence. However, of the front runners only Hirst was docked his best lap, though Bailey lost a pair of times for straying outside the lines.

Frederick Mortensen will start 14th, stripped of a lap that would have put him seen him qualifying sixth.

Stuart Pearson will start both the first and second races from pole position in the G20 class, beating Alex Preston to the best time in class by four hundredths.
