1 Mins read

RSR Racing’s Bruno Junqueira scored a record lap time to claim pole in the Prototype Challenge class at the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix got well underway.

In this the fourth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Junqueira set a time of 1:19.723 to score the team’s second consecutive first place start.

Duncan Ende will join the Brazilian for the two hour sprint race around the curves of Laguna Seca, with both men hoping to score their first win of the season.

This PC race will be the first for the category since Sebring as they skipped the Long Beach round in favour of a solo race at the Kansas Speedway.

“I love this track and am very happy to be on the pole,” declared Junqueira. “When you have a fast car here it is a lot of fun and I am excited for the race. The team did a great job with the car, the balance was perfect for qualifying.”

In the sister RSR Racing car, Alex Tagliani will start fifth after setting a time of 1:20.568. The Canadian, and team mate Chris Cumming will hope that they are still well within a chance of scoring a podium.

“We were quite good in practice one and made some changes for qualifying that unfortunately didn’t improve the car,” said Tagliani. “We’re going back to our original set-up and should be in great shape for the race.”
