Campos Racing’s young Spanish racer Alex Palou took the first pole position of the 2014 EuroFormula Open season when he set the fastest time at the Nurburgring. His best lap time of 1:52.572s was enough for pole, and was 0.094s faster than second placed Sandy Stuvik in his RP Motorsport machine.
Team West-Tec F3 took the next three places on the grid, with Thai driver Tanart Sathienthirakul ahead of Friday pace setter Cameron Twynham and German Nicolas Pohler. RP Motorsport’s Polish driver Artur Janosz was sixth, ahead of the leading Emilio de Villota Motorsport driver Yu Kanamaru, the Japanese driver just ahead of the fourth West-Tec entry of Wei Fung Thong.
The two Russian’s of RP Motorsport’s John Simonyan and Campos Racing’s Konstantin Tereschenk rounded out the top ten ahead of this afternoon’s first race.
It is the first event of the new EuroFormula Open that was previously named the European F3 Open before a change in the rules meant that the series could no longer use the Formula 3 name in its title, despite the cars running all running in F3 specification.
