Thruxton Star Pittard: “Two In A Row Is Fantastic”

1 Mins read

New Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup championship leader David Pittard has described his double-winning Saturday at Thruxton as a “huge day” for the SV Racing/KX Akademy team.

Pittard converted second on the grid to a comfortable victory in the opening race of the day, before dominating proceedings in race two with a lights to flag success, his third and fourth podium finishes of the season so far.

Those results, coupled with the former top two in the standings missing out on podium finishes, has moved the Ginetta GT5 Challenge graduate into the championship lead by three points – with Pittard admitting the success has come earlier than expected.

“It’s a huge day for us,” Pittard told TCF. “We always felt the wins would come at some point this season, but to nail two in a row is absolutely fantastic. Whilst we’re riding the crest of this wave we’ll make the most of it, and grab all the points we can.”

Pittard’s double continues a successful trend for the SV Racing/KX Akademy team, with team-mates Alex Morgan and Josh Cook having taken double wins in the Renault UK Clio Cup at Brands Hatch and Donington Park respectively.

Having drawn fourth for the reverse grid race three tomorrow (4th May), Pittard feels he has a shot at going one better than his rivals and securing a hat-trick of victories.

“I wouldn’t say the treble is out of the question,” he commented. “The last two reverse grid races have been carnage, and drawing number four was the best possible result for me. Anything can happen, I’m looking forward to it.”
