Sedgwick Impresses At Oulton With First Rookie Win

1 Mins read

Alex Sedgwick secured his first Rookie Cup win and season’s best result of fifth overall during the latest rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park.

The Ginetta Junior Scholarship winner got his weekend off to a great start in qualifying, adapting well to a drying track to card fourth and seventh place grid starts in his JHR Developments-prepared G40J.

The first race of the weekend didn’t go to plan for the 15 year old though, with contact to the rear of his Ginetta as they braked into Cascades sending him off track and into the gravel. While he was able to recover, he could only fight back to a twelfth place finish.

Bouncing back in race two, Sedgwick recovered well after losing a place off the line to make steady progress through the field in tricky conditions. After crossing the line in sixth, an exclusion for the Rookie victor ahead promoted him into fifth overall and the Rookie class win.

“After the disappointment of the first race, I was determined to fight back and get the best result I could,” said Sedgwick. “Avoiding the collision towards the end of the race lost me a place and on the last lap I set my fastest lap and had caught the car in front just as the chequered flag came out.

“Winning the Rookie Driver trophy was a nice reward for everybody’s hard work, now we have to build on this for the next round at Croft at the end of the month.”
