Stilp Scrapes Pole Position In Tight Clio Cup Qualifying

1 Mins read

Jordan Stilp claimed a close pole position for 20Ten Racing in qualifying for the Renault Clio Cup at Croft.

In what was an extremely tight qualifying session, the top five were separated by less than half a second. The top ten were separated by less than a second.

Stilp was able to edge out Josh Cook for pole by just 0.016 seconds with a time of 1.32.196s.

Ash Hand, who had a fastest lap taken away for exceeding track limits, qualified third followed by Westbourne Motorsport driver James Colburn and Paul Rivett.

Westbourne Motorsport’s Devon Modell saw his session cut short after he hit a barrier in sector three. He was able to drive back to the pits via the escape road but the incident did prove critical.

Modell did set a time of 1.32.862 on the previous lap which was good enough for him to start seventh.

With the top ten so close a thrilling pole position battle seemed to be on the horizon. But with five minutes left all cars apart from three returned to the pits.

Alex Morgan, Mark Howard and Craig Milner stayed out until the end but couldn’t improve as the rest of the field saw the checkered flag from the pit lane.
