Stuvik Leads Tight Qualifying Session in Jerez

1 Mins read

Thai driver Sandy Stuvik took his fourth consecutive EuroFormula Open pole position in a tightly fought qualifying session around the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. The RP Motorsport driver set a best lap time of 1:37.354s to pip team-mate and current championship leader Artur Janosz by 0.064s.

Proving how close the series is in 2014, Yarin Stern was third for Team West-Tec F3 only 0.087s off Stuvik’s pole time, while fourth placed Alex Palou, winner of the opening round of the season at the Nurburgring was also under a tenth of a second adrift for Campos Racing.

Russian John Simonyan was fifth for RP Motorsport and was the last of the drivers to set a best lap time underneath 1:38s. The other two Campos Racing entries of Briton Sean Walkinshaw and Russian Konstantin Tereschenko will line-up sixth and seventh.

Eighth on the grid will be German Nicholas Pohler for Team West-Tec F3, ahead of the leading Emilio de Villota Motorsport entry of Japanese driver Yu Kanamaru. Both Pohler and Kanamaru set identical lap times of 1:38.195s but Pohler will start ahead after setting the time first. The second Thai driver on the grid Tanart Sathienthirakul completed the top ten for Team West-Tec F3.

Race 1 begins later this afternoon with the championship battle between Janosz and Stuvik set to resume. Only one point covers the two RP Motorsport drivers heading into the race.
