Stuvik Puts RP Motorsport on top in Portimao Free Practice

2013 Series runner-up Sandy Stuvik was fastest during free practice ahead of this weekends EuroFormula Open event in Portimao. The Thai driver set a best lap time of 1:43.926s in the opening session of the three ahead of the first qualifying of the weekend on Saturday morning.

Stuvik in his RP Motorsport machine was one of only three drivers to break through the 1:44s barrier during the day, along with Team West-Tec F3’s Israeli racer Yarin Stern and Emilio de Villota Motorsport’s Japanese driver Yu Kanamaru. Stuvik and Stern set their best laps in the opening session, with Kanamaru breaking into the 1:43s during the second session.

German driver Nicolas Pohler was next best for Team West-Tec F3, setting a lap of 1:44.060s in the opening session, while his Thai team-mate Tanart Sathienthirakul was only 0.005s back with his best time in the second session.

Sixth fastest overall was Russian Konstantin Tereschenko for Campos Racing with a 1:44.156, just ahead of Korean Che-One Lim for Emilio de Villota Motorsport. Sean Walkinshaw was eighth for Campos, while Polish driver Artur Janosz for RP Motorsport and Wei Fung Thong for Team West-Tec F3 completed the top ten fastest drivers of the day.

Nurburgring race one winner Alex Palou had relatively quiet sessions for Campos Racing, ending fifteenth fastest overall on the day but his best lap time was less than seven tenths of a second slower than the pace setter Stuvik, who sat out the final session.
