Will Stevens to drive Caterham CT05 at Silverstone Test

1 Mins read

The Caterham F1 team have confirmed that its Caterham Academy Driver and Test Driver Will Stevens will drive for them in the post-race test at Silverstone on July 08th.

The 22-year-old Briton will get his first taste of 2014 machinery at the circuit, having tested previously for the team at the same circuit in 2013. Stevens currently competes in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with Strakka Racing and took his maiden series victory in the opening round of the season in Monza, and currently sits fourth in the championship.

“It’ll be great to be back in an F1 car for the first time since the 2013 Silverstone test and with the amount of time I’ve already spent in the virtual car in the simulator, I can’t wait to see how it compares to the real thing,” said Stevens. “I’m sure we’ll have a busy run plan set for the day and my focus will be on doing the best job I can for the team, building on the work I’ve been doing all year in the sim at Leafield.”

Stevens has been assisting in the development of Caterham’s driver-in-the-loop simulator at the Leafield Technical Centre headquarters in the UK. The simulator now forms an integral part of the engineering department of the team and assists in the fine-tuning of its technical capabilities. Stevens also provides race weekend support from the simulator cockpit as part of his role as Caterham Test Driver.
