Academy Duo Delighted With Double Croft Podium

1 Mins read

Academy Motorsport duo Will Burns and Sean Huyton have expressed their delight after each carding a first podium finish of the season in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup at Croft.

Burns scored the first podium of his Supercup career in race three, having had a third place finish in race one taken away from him by the stewards, while Huyton added to his first outright podium from Rockingham last season with a hard-earned third in race two.

After qualifying sixth, Burns took advantage of a scrap in front of him to battle to third in race one – however he was awarded a two-second penalty post-race for cutting the chicane to drop to fifth.

He bounced back in race two and ran third heading into the closing stages of race two, but had team-mate Huyton right on his bumper. The reigning G50 champion, who finished eighth in race one, challenged his team-mate in the final two laps and snatched the place at the chicane for third.

In race three, Burns once again kept his nose out of trouble to take his well-earned third place finish. Huyton meanwhile was left frustrated after being hit into retirement by a rival.

Burns: “It’s been a great weekend. The team has improved my set-up since last time out at Oulton Park and it got better throughout the weekend.

“I was disappointed to be handed a penalty in race one as but I had to avoid other cars in order to avoid an accident. I had a great team battle with Sean in race two and to take my first podium of the year in race three was a fantastic feeling.”

Huyton: “This was by far the best weekend for myself and the team and it gives us momentum on which to build for the rest of the season.

“We fine tuned the set-up for race two and it certainly brought great results. The scrap with Will was fantastic and to have both cars on the podium this weekend is a sign of our improvement.”
