Double Nurburgring Pole for Tom Blomqvist

2 Mins read

Briton Tom Blomqvist took pole position for races two and three in the delayed FIA European Formula 3 Championship qualifying session at the Nurburgring. The Jagonya Ayam with Carlin driver will start alongside Van Amersfoort Racing’s Max Verstappen in both of today’s races.

The session was delayed having been originally set to go on Saturday evening, but due to barrier repairs was rescheduled for early Sunday morning. It was Blomqvist who took the fastest time of the session to take pole for race two, with a drivers fastest time within the 20-minute session determining the grid for race two.

Championship contender Verstappen will start second ahead of the resurgent Antonio Giovinazzi, who since being given a new chassis by his Jagonya Ayam with Carlin team ahead of the previous event at the Red Bull Ring has been one of the outstanding drivers.

Quite possible the most outstanding driver of the whole season, championship leader Esteban Ocon, will start fourth in his Prema Powerteam entry, just ahead of his team-mate Antonio Fuoco.

Felix Rosenqvist and Lucas Auer qualified their Mücke Motorsport machines sixth and seventh for race two, ahead of the Carlin trio of Jordan King, Ed Jones and Jake Dennis.

For race three, where a drivers second fastest lap time during qualifying dictates the order of the grid, it was Blomqvist again who led the way from Verstappen. Fuoco will start this race from third on the grid alongside Ocon, with Giovinazzi fifth.

Positions six to ten are the same for race three as they are for race two, with Rosenqvist leading Auer, King, Jones and Dennis.
