Ed Jones will sit out the third FIA European Formula 3 Championship race at the Nurburgring after complaining about back pain. The Dubai-based Carlin driver finished eighth in race 2 earlier in the day.
His Carlin boss Trevor Carlin confirmed the news that Jones will miss the final race of the weekend after being in discomfort in race two. Jones had qualified ninth for this afternoon’s final race of the weekend.
“Ed found he was in some discomfort after the second race earlier today so he will sit out the final race of the weekend to be on the safe side,” said Carlin. “We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in the car again soon.”
The season has a long break between Nurburgring and the penultimate weekend of the year at Imola, with the round in Italy scheduled for the 11th/12th of October.
Jones has had a troubled season, having had to sit out the rounds at the Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, the Norisring and Moscow Raceway due to a cracked vertebra that occurred in a huge crash while racing at Pau. The 2013 European F3 Open champion currently sits twelfth in the European F3 championship standings, with a best result of second in race one at Hockenheim in May.
