Robertson Back On Top With Record-Breaking Pole

1 Mins read

Charlie Robertson took a record-breaking sixth pole position of the 2014 Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup season in qualifying for the eighth meeting of the season at Rockingham.

The championship leader had been enjoying a run of five consecutive pole positions prior to the Knockhill meeting last time out, when chief title rival Carl Breeze snatched pole by seven thousandths of a second.

Robertson bounced back around the banked Rockingham circuit though, topping the timesheets practically from start-to-finish with a best lap of 1m 21.743s that gives him the new Supercup record for the most pole positions in a season.

Andrew Watson posted the second fastest time in the session, 0.209 seconds slower than the pole time, but the Douglas Motorsport ace will line up fifth courtesy of a three place grid penalty carried over from Knockhill.

That promotes David Pittard to the front row in his SV Racing G55, with Breeze up to third after just edging Jamie Orton in the times by 0.015s. Tom Oliphant will complete row three with Watson after an impressive performance as he battles illness.

Ginetta GT5 Challenge pairing Luke Davenport and Will Burns will share row four, the latter having lost time in the pits after an excursion across the grass, while Carl Boardley lines up ninth after a strong showing on his return to the championship.

Championship newcomers Tom Howard and Dennis Strandberg are next up, Howard having snatched a top ten start away from the Swede with his final lap. Dan Norris-Jones took twelfth ahead of Giles Dawson, making his first appearance since Silverstone 2012, and debutant John Hindhaugh.
