Clio Giants Pyro Plot MSA Formula Entry

1 Mins read

Team Pyro are planning a change of direction for 2015 with an entry into the MSA Formula series, a move which could end their association with Renault Clio Cup racing.

According to reports, the Leicestershire-based outfit have ordered four of the Mygale chassis’ for the FIA-backed championship next year, with two drivers already signed up.

“I like the idea of working with younger drivers, as I’ve always wanted to work in Formula Renault,” team boss Mark Hunt told Motorsport News.

Pyro have been the dominant force in the Renault UK Clio Cup for over half a decade, with Mike Bushell’s title win this past weekend at Brands Hatch making it six drivers titles in seven years for the team.

Despite this, Hunt added that the team, who also run cars in the Michelin Clio Cup Series, could move away from Clio competition.

“I don’t want to give eighty per cent of my time and effort into a new venture which is on the same weekend as another championship in which the team is running,” he added.

“There is interest from someone in buying the whole Clio operation. I don’t see the move as a risk as I’ve only run one Clio driver this year.”
