Sorensen closer to title after Nogaro hat trick

2 Mins read

Danish driver Lasse Sorensen moved closer to the 2014 French F4 title after taking his second clean sweep of victories this season with a trio of wins at Nogaro.

Having taken pole position for race one, the Dane was unstoppable, and won the fourteen lap race from Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci by 4.185s, with Anglo-Swiss driver Felix Hirsiger a further 5.994s back in third after a race long battle with Mexican Patricio O’Ward.

Another Frenchman Valentin Hasse Clot was fifth ahead of Russian Denis Bulatov, while Valentin Moineault, Vladimir Atoev, Joseph Mawson and Max Defourny completed the top ten.

In race two, an incident between Defourny and Atoev saw the Belgian driver retire, and although taking the chequered flag first, the Russian was handed a penalty for the incident, gifting the race two win to Sorensen.

Sorensen had fought through the field spectacularly to be in position to take advantage of the clash between race long leaders Defourny and Atoev, while Hirsiger was classified second ahead of Hasse Clot.

Boccolacci was fourth ahead of Moineault, with O’Ward sixth. Finn Niclas Nylund was seventh ahead of Frenchman Bryan Elpitiya, while Swedish driver Reuben Kressner took ninth ahead of Swiss driver Paul Hokfelt Jr. Atoev’s post-race thirty-second penalty saw him classified down in nineteenth.

Race three saw Sorensen and Boccolacci once again lead the way, with the Dane once again getting the best of the Frenchman. Hirsiger took his third podium of the weekend in third ahead of Atoev, who made up for his race two penalty with a strong drive to fourth.

O’Ward was fifth ahead of Bulatov, while Hasse Clot, Mawson, Hokfelt Jr and Defourny completed the top ten.

Sorensen now has 274 points in the championship and leads Hirsiger by 69 points with six races to go, starting with three this weekend at Jerez, the only time the series ventures outside France all season.
