Welcome to our live coverage of GP2 qualifying from Abu Dhabi. Stoffel Vandoorne was fastest in practice, lets see if the Belgian can reproduce that pace in qualifying.
Qualifying is now underway in Abu Dhabi. 30 minutes of action ahead.
A lot at stake here in qualifying. Vandoorne will be desperate to take pole position to keep up with Sauber-bound Felipe Nasr in the fight for 2nd in the championship.
Vandoorne is gunning for four pole positions in a row which would be a new GP2 record.
At the moment it’s our champion Jolyon Palmer on provisional pole followed by Vandoorne and Richelmi
Haryanto up to 4th
Palmer and Vandoorne on fast laps but Sorensen just a fraction off the provisional pole time at the moment
Sorensen lost a lot of time in the final sector and falls down the field
Vandoorne goes fastest with a 1.48.736
Evans jumps up to 5th and Pic goes up to 8th
Cars sliding all over the place. Not a lot of grip out there as we see a replay of Cecotto almost losing the rear end on the exit of the final corner.
At the moment the top five is: Vandoorne, Palmer, Richelmi, Coletti and Evans
Yellow flags briefly out for debris on track but they’re away now and track is green again.
It’s all quiet out on track now as new tyres are fitted and everyone prepares for their final runs with 13 minutes remaining in the session.
Cars are emerging from the pit lane now. Everyone weaving around the Yas Marina circuit as they prepare for the final 10 minutes of qualifying.
Big lock up from Giovesi as he tries to lift himself off the bottom of the pack. It’s a sloppy lap but he moves up to 15th.
5 minutes remaining in qualifying. Vandoorne still on provisional pole.
Palmer fastest in sector one.
Lots of drivers posting fastest sectors at the moment!
Richelmi goes fastest!
But Palmer beats him with a 1.48.187!
Can anyone beat Palmer? Of course they can and who else but Vandoorne! The Belgian posts a 1.48.088
The top three are separated by less than three tenths with one flying lap left. Here we go!
Palmer runs wide going into the final corner so he can’t beat Vandoorne and neither can his team-mate Richelmi.
It’s Stoffel Vandoorne on pole! And with that he cuts the gap to Felipe Nasr to just four points.
Nasr will start 5th
Vandoorne, who is giving Mclaren a lot to think about, takes his fourth pole position in a row which is a GP2 record. Impressive stuff from the young Belgian.

3. Stephane Richelmi +0.286
