5) Antonio Giovinazzi
It was a relatively impressive season for Antonio Giovinazzi, although his form was dependent on his Jagonya Ayam with Carlin car being as strong as it could have been, with a damaged chassis being responsible for his apparent lack of pace during the mid-season, caused by a heavy crash at the Norisring.
Before the chassis change, Giovinazzi had taken just one podium finish – a second place at Hockenheim, but post-change, the Italian was one of the stars of the series. He was the absolute dominant force in Spielberg, with a maiden series win in race three on the back of losing the win in race two after a penalty for a safety car infringement.
Another victory followed at the Nurburgring, and with podium finishes at both Imola and Hockenheim he finished the season strongly, and ultimately finished sixth in the championship.
Giovinazzi’s form would indicate that the Italian has the talent to succeed in motor sport, and after two years in European Formula 3, it could be time for him to move on to pastures new, with GP2, GP3 or World Series by Renault amongst his possible future destinations.
