4) Lucas Auer
Lucas Auer moved from the Prema Powerteam outfit to Mücke Motorsport in 2014, and took fourth place in the championship for the second year in a row. The nephew of former Formula 1 race winner Gerhard Berger was thrice a winner in 2014, with victories coming at the Nurburgring and at both visits to Hockenheim.
There is no doubt about the talent Auer possesses, and has competed in a couple of Endurance races towards the end of the year, and although he came up short compared to the three ahead of him in the final standings, he can hold his head up high with a number of highly impressive and competitive performances.
As well as his wins, the Austrian finished on the podium in races at Pau, the Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, the Norisring and the Red Bull Ring, and scored points in all but four races during the season. Of course, his season wasn’t without blemishes, with Auer being found responsible a big crash at Moscow Raceway with Jordan King that eliminated both drivers towards the end of race three.
As for next season, Auer has already hinted he has raced an F3 car for the final time, and has tested a Formula Renault 3.5 Series car at Motorland Aragon with Arden Motorsport with a view to moving to that series in 2015, although there are possible World Endurance Championship opportunities too.
