Team Russia by Barwell Joins the Blancpain Endurance Series

1 Mins read

Renowned GT squad Barwell Motorsport has joined the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series grid with its BMW Z4 GT3.

The Team Russia by Barwell entry will participate in the competitive Pro-Am category, which garnered four different race winners in five races last season.

The team joins the Blancpain Endurance Series after a spell in the GTC class of the European Le Mans Series last year, scoring points in four of the five rounds. Last season’s driver line-up will be retained, with Jonny Cocker, Timur Sardarov and Leo Machitski already confirmed for the 3 hour races at Monza, Silverstone and the Nurburgring, as well as the 1000 km at Paul Ricard.

Team Russia by Barwell are yet to announce their plans for the 24 Hours of Spa, the race that team member Machitski competed in last year, claiming a podium in the Gentleman’s Trophy class.

Pre-season testing of the BMW Z4 GT3 begins at Monza on March 5, prior to the official Blancpain Endurance Series test at Paul Ricard (March 11-12). This latest venture into one of the most competitive GT championships in the world will be supported by Vi Holding Developments, Black Ocean and Bluewater.

Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport Team Principal, said: “I am delighted that we will be doubling our attack on the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am title, with the addition of the Team Russia by Barwell BMW Z4 GT3. Leo and Jonny are already stars at this level, and Timur is really developing well as one of the most promising new Gentleman drivers of the GT3 scene.”

“I’m absolutely delighted to be continuing the journey with Team Russia by Barwell in the 2015 season,” said full-season driver Jonny Cocker. “I’m extremely excited at the prospect of this year’s championship, the consistency in the team, car and driver line up will really mean we can hit the ground running ready for what I feel will be a very successful year for all involved. I can’t wait to get started!”
