Former British GT Champ Caine Joins Ginetta GT4 Supercup

1 Mins read

Reigning British GT vice-champion Michael Caine is making a surprise switch to the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup this season, linking up with JHR Developments with backing from Amigos Beer.

Caine finished second in British GT last year in a Motorbase Aston Martin Vantage GT3 alongside Ahmad Al Harthy, having won the championship back in 2012 with the same team in a Porsche 997 GT3 alongside Daniele Perfetti.

The two-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB vice-champion has also raced in the BTCC with Motorbase, competing in two meetings towards the end of 2011 alongside a one-off appearance in 2013, taking a top ten finish of both occasions in Ford Focuses.

The 45 year old, who has twice competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours, is looking forward to teaming up with 2013 Supercup champions JHR for his debut in the Supercup.

“I can’t wait to get out in the car!” said Caine. “We have the best looking car and are running with the best team.

“All I have to do now is work out how to get the most out of my car and we should do okay! Everyone has worked really hard to make this happen so it’s important we all have a great year!”

Caine will drive the Amigos beer-liveried G55 GT4 initially intended for Steve Perez.

“The best thing for the Amigos brand is for our extensively branded car to run at the sharp end,” added Perez.

“I only recently met Michael but quickly realised what a true gentleman he is, not to mention mighty quick too – we couldn’t have found a better driver to champion our great brand.”
