Leclerc takes top spot on day two at damp Valencia

2 Mins read

Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc ended day two of the first FIA European Formula 3 Championship test with the fastest time on a damp Valencia track.

The Van Amersfoort Racing driver set the best time in the wet morning session, and then took top spot once more in the drying afternoon session, although the track was not fully dried out by the time the chequered flag fell at the end of the day.

Rookie drivers came to the front on Wednesday, with Leclerc finishing ahead of Carlin drivers George Russell and Callum Ilott. The highest placed returning driver was Gustavo Menezes in fourth for Jagonya Ayam with Carlin.

Alexander Albon was fifth fastest for Signature ahead of Tuesday pacesetter Antonio Giovinazzi of Jagonya Ayam with Carlin.

“I am very satisfied,” said Giovinazzi at the end of the two-day test. “Yesterday’s good performance was followed today [with] a great job by my engineers, in a rainy day without interruption.”

Maximilian Gunther was the best placed Mücke Motorsport driver in seventh ahead of Sean Gelael in the third Jagonya Ayam with Carlin machine.

Santino Ferrucci was ninth for Mücke Motorsport, while Fabian Schiller placed tenth in the sole Team West-Tec F3 entry set to race in the series in 2015.

Thirty-four drivers once again took to the track on Wednesday, with Peter Li getting his first running of the week after taking over the Fortec Motorsports car from team-mate Martin Cao.
