Brabham Receives Late FIA WEC Call Up

1 Mins read

David Brabham has been drafted in by Tequila Patrón Extreme Speed Motorsports for this weekend’s 6 Hours of Silverstone, as a replacement for the injured Johannes van Overbeek.

Brabham will join Jon Fogarty and Ed Brown in the #31 Tequila Patrón ESM HPD ARX-03b after van Overbeek suffered a broken rib.

“It was quite a surprise to get a call this close to the race,” said Brabham. “Scott [Sharp, team owner and driver] explained the situation, and I feel for Johannes after having my own rib injury a couple of months ago racing in Australia. I know how much pain he is in.

The 6 Hours of Silverstone marks the first race in Tequila Patrón ESM’s full-season FIA WEC debut. Brabham, who won the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours with Peugeot, raced for Tequila Patrón ESM at the 6 Hours of Shanghai last year. He has recently been focusing on his ‘Project Brabham’ concept, which aims to create a fully crowd-funded LMP2 team.

“I’m honored to have been called up to help out Tequila Patrón ESM here at Silverstone, which isn’t that far from where I live,” he said. “I’ll do the best I can this weekend. I’m back in racing form since my accident and have been training frequently. I’m looking forward to driving with Ed again, and we’ll start the Tequila Patrón ESM FIA WEC season off on the right foot.”

The FIA WEC 6 Hours of Silverstone gets underway this Sunday (April 12) at 12:00 GMT.
