Independent entries in the FIA European Rally Championship will have an extra incentive to to push for victory on the next round of the series, the SATA Rallye Azores, after the championship organisers announced an increase to the ERC privateer prize fund.
As an acknowledgment to the 50th anniversary of the event the prize money will be increased from it’s usual 20,000 euro to 50,000 euro.
This means that the top finishing privateer will receive a cheque for 10,000 euro with the top finishing independent team in the ERC Junior championship receiving 6,000 euro.
“SATA Rallye Açores is a great challenge, featuring some of the most spectacular gravel special stages in the ERC, and the event organisers have also created a very attractive logistics package to encourage teams to come and experience this amazing rally for themselves.” said Jean-Baptiste Ley, ERC Co-ordinator
“Together, we have created excellent financial incentives for this very special edition of the event, and look forward to celebrating it with Europe’s top privateer rally drivers on the beautiful Portuguese island of São Miguel in June.”
The ERC privateer prize fund is eligible to drivers that register for the ERC, receive no manufacturer support, use tyres from one of the three ERC partner companies (Michelin, Pirelli and Yokohama) and not compete in a Regional Rally Car.
The 2015 SATA Rallye Azores will be made up of 17 stages and will cover over 200 km. The event kicks off on June 4.
