With a week before the start of the new season, Lechner Racing brings in 2 young drivers to complete its line-up. With Florian Janits and Marcel Lenerz having been contracted for the upcoming season.
Janits has racing experience. He competed for the Lechner team before having completed a race in 2013 for them in the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Series. He also competed in a full season of car racing last year when he returned to the championship and managed 3rd overall, picking up 2 victories. These results should help him become an early championship contender, if he can get to grips with the machine.
Team Boss Robert Lechner commented on the decision to retain the Austrian from their racing school, saying; “We are very pleased to go into the second season with Florian in together.” Reporting the driver had proven he could “win races” and has had “consistently strong performances.”
He will be joined by young former kart driver; Marcel Lenerz. Last year he also competed alongside Janits in the 1.6L series, however, he will be most noted for his KF2 Championship title in 2013. The 17 year old will be hoping to prove himself in one of Europe’s most exiting new series.
When asked about the signing, Lechner said; “he definitely deserves a chance in Formula 4”. However; after struggling against his current team mate in their last championship, how competitive is Lenerz going to be compared to his much anticipated competition.
The team run by Walter Lechner has had experience and success in other formula. Most notably in the Porsche Supercup where they came first and second in last years teams championship with the VERVA Lechner Racing Team and the Walter Lechner Racing Team repectively.
The signing means that their are now only 2 seats left with one week before the start of the new season at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
