Ogier Forced to Retire from Argentina Rally on opening day

1 Mins read

Volkswagen Motorsport have been forced to retire Sébastien Ogier‘s Polo R on SS2 of the XION Argentina Rally 2015 following a technical problem.

After setting the pace on SS1 the defending champion experienced an unknown engine issue forcing him to stop mid-stage, bystanders reported that the VW was sounding rought.

A short statement from the Volkswagen Motorsport team reads:

With Ogier out of contention, Citroën’s Kris Meeke has taken the initiative and finished SS2 31.9 seconds faster than second placed Dani Sordo, as he increased his lead to 32.7 seconds. Jari-Matti Latvala is still in contention for VW in third place, 1.2 seconds behind Sordo with Andreas Mikkelsen in ninth place, 1 minute and 53 seconds off the pace of the leaders.

A full report of today’s action will be online at theCheckeredFlag.co.uk later today.
