Sutton Ready To Build On “Special” Donington Clio Victory

1 Mins read

Ashley Sutton hopes his maiden Renault UK Clio Cup victory at Donington Park will be his first of many this season, feeling he and the Team Pyro outfit have ‘set their mark’ for the remainder of the year.

Sutton renewed rivalries with Ant Whorton-Eales in the opening race of the Donington triple-header, a thrilling encounter seeing the lead change hands multiple times before Sutton made the decisive move at Redgate three laps from the end.

Having felt aggrieved with the nature of how he lost the victory at Brands Hatch to Whorton-Eales at the final corner, Sutton expressed his delight at the standard of racing on show at Donington Park.

“The racing on track today was exactly how it should be,” Sutton told TCF. “I had a great battle with Ant [Whorton-Eales] and in that scenario, it wouldn’t matter who won the race as I had a fantastic time out there – though obviously coming away with the win is special.”

Confidence is high for Sutton as he heads into today’s two races at Donington, with the Team BMR-backed driver looking to add to his win tally in Rounds Three and Four.

“We’re here to do business and get wins under our belt. That’s the first one of the season, we’ve set our mark now,” he added.

“It’s nice to head into the next two races like this, it’s the best way to do it, but don’t get me wrong it’s not going to be easy.

“I’m starting on the front row for both races, so we’ll see how it goes, but I’ll be aiming to repeat what we’ve done today.”
