Volkswagen Sweden Ready For WorldRX Opener

1 Mins read

Volkswagen Sweden is looking to go one better in 2015 as it aims to win the FIA World Rallycross Teams Trophy after finishing runner up to Ford OlsbergsMSE in 2014.

There will be two Volkswagan supported teams taking part in the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship. The first is returning outfit Marklund Motorsport, who fielded Anton Marklund and Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen in 2014. Marklund have retained 2013 Red Bull Global Rallycross Champion Topi Heikkinen whilst former Junior WRC Champion Per-Gunnar Andersson joins the outfit for 2015.

Heikkinen finished runner up to 2014 WorldRX Champion Petter Solberg and is looking to go one better in 2015.

The second team in this years championship is Volkswagen Team Sweden, formerly known as Kristoffersson Motorsport, who are joining the series full time in 2015 after 2014 campaigns in both the FIA European Rallycross Championship and the RallyX Scandinavia Champonship.

The driver lineup includes Johan Kristoffersson and Tord Linnerud, who drove a Mk3 Renault Clio in last years EuroRX. Kristoffersson’s pedigree is unwuestionable as he won the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, The Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and the International Superstars titles all in 2012. He was also in with the front runners at the 2014 Belgian round of EuroRX and WorldRX.

All four drivers will be piloting brand new Mk5 Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars with support for both privateer teams from Volkswagen Sweden.

Volkswagen Motorsport Director Jost Capito is confident that both teams and all four drivers will be fighting for wins and looking for championship silverware during the 2015 season.

“The FIA World Rallycross Championship is becoming more and more popular. Volkswagen is represented in it by two extremely professional privateer teams that develop and enter their Polo RX Supercars independently. We’re confident that the Volkswagen drivers will be in the running for race victories and titles.”

The first round of the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship gets underway this weekend at Montelagre in Portugal and The Checkered Flag will be reporting on all 13 rounds of the series.
