Alonso to miss Barcelona test in favour of Turvey

McLaren-Honda have announced that Fernando Alonso will not test at this weeks in-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya, instead relying on the talents of test driver Oliver Turvey.

Twenty-eight-year-old Turvey has long been a part of the McLaren programme, but will be having his first test of 2015 in the MP4/30, taking the reigns of the car on Tuesday.

Jenson Button is the only race driver to get some track time in Spain, with the Briton, on the back of a race that he described as ‘one of the scariest experiences of my life’, taking over on Wednesday.

Alonso will therefore sit out the test, as will regular test and reserve driver Kevin Magnussen. The test gets underway on Tuesday morning.
